JOHN PRESTON

THE John Preston is a wooden schooner lost in December 1882 although the details are unknown.

She makes an interesting, shallower second dive, lying on a ledge at the top of an underwater cliff, half-a-mile from Lochaline pier.

Most of the wreck has disappeared but a huge cargo of slate still remains along with one piece of the wooden hull and some metallic structure scattered around.

The schooner lies at a depth of 14-16meters and the wreck site is sheltered from the worst of the currents but subject to gentle tidal flow which provides the opportunity for a drift-dive along the cliff face.
